Library

 

The Library Unit of the Centro Universitario de la Costa is the effort of the Rectory to consolidate the new organization of the Red Universitaria en Jalisco, and it is one of the two instances of support for the academic area, thus being the core part of the university.

Its Function

It is to develop the different collections and plan new information services that allow us to satisfy the bibliohemerographic needs of the different academic programs, as well as the lines of research carried out at the Centro Universitario de la Costa.

Its Purpose

Provide updated and timely information in quantity and quality, as well as consultation in its different formats using new technologies.

Its Mission

To satisfy, in the first instance, the information needs of the entire university community of the Centro Universitario de la Costa, serving as support for the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Research and Extension programs. As well as serving the social development of our environment.

Monday to Friday from 8:00 am  to 20:00 pm

Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Bibliographic Collections

Reference works
This material is located at the end of the general collection shelf and contains:

o    General or specialized encyclopedias

o    Dictionaries

o    Geographic and historical atlas

o    Manuals

o    Gudes

o    Almanac , etc.

 

Policy


Due the material in the reference area is used constantly, it is part of a whole in the case of encyclopedias, its cost is high, etc. The Library reserves the right to allow internal borrowing only and may not be photocopied. To access the files for this material, you must use the online catalog and it is differentiated from the general collection by having a letter C at the top of the classification and on the label on the spine of the book.


General Collection 
This collection is located in the right wing of the Library, and is available for external loan.


Policy 
External loan is restricted for books on reserve as well as for books that are unique except for night and weekend lending.


Special collections
This is a collection made up of reference works and a general collection specialized in the areas of Biology, History and Statistics.

Policy
In the case of the Gonzalez Romero and Cifuentes Lemus funds, only internal loan. For the INEGI area, we have both internal and external loans.

 

Library Regulations


Introduction

The role that the University Library plays in the university environment is increasingly important and fundamental, so every day the staff who work there are working to give you the best services and invite you to collaborate with us in compliance of its rules.

This instrument was made with the aim of optimally and more effectively taking advantage of the different services offered by our Central Library to the entire university community of the Centro Universitario de la Costa as well as to the probable potential users of the town.

In such a way that we try to standardize its use and leverage of information resources to achieve its objective of promotion, preservation, dissemination and extension of culture.

Due to the above, these Regulations were created for the service and use of the Central Library.

The Library staff is at your service and gives you the most cordial Welcome.
 

Title I General Dispositions

Chapter I Personality and Purposes.

Art. 1 This Regulation regulates the Structure and Functioning of the Central Library of the Centro Universitario de la Costa

Art. 2. The central library is a body dependent on the Coordination of Academic Services, and in charge of the central dissemination, development and administration of its different collections.
 

Title II Organic Structure

Art . 3 . The authorities of the Central Library are made up of:

a) The Head of the Library Unit.

b) The Librarians.

Chapter I Functions and Powers of the Head of Unit of the Head of the Library.

Art. 4. The following are the powers of the Head of the Library Unit:

a) Direct the proper functioning of the Central Library as well as comply with and enforce these regulations.

b) Propose and work collaboratively with the Center's Library Committee for the selection of bibliographic material, Video and Software programs appropriate to the study programs and the needs of the Center for their acquisition.

c) Authorize, with the approval of the entity involved, the release of Bibliographic video material and equipment included in the inventory of the Central Library.

d) Promote the development of Library collections for consultation and growth.

e) Present an annual report to the Center Council.

f) Create and disseminate the catalog of bibliographic, newspaper, video, software and database collections that the library has.

g) Carry out instruction courses for users on the use of the library.

h) Planning and implementation of new information services.

Art. 5 The following are the obligations and powers of librarians:

a) Maintain order and proper functioning in the Central Library at all times.

b) Assist the Head of the Library in its administration and care.

c) Present an activity report to the head of the library.

d) Teach workshops, give advice on the use of the library and guided tours.
 
 
Title III Users
Chapther I. Classification of Users.

Art. 6 Users of the Central Library for administrative purposes will be classified into: 
Internal Users and External Users.

a) Internal Users are the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the different courses taught at the University Center, the Teachers and/or Researchers, Technical, Administrative and Service staff, of the different instances that make up the University Center.

b) External Users are those sectors of the population that require at a certain time the services offered by the library and that are not contemplated in section a).

Art.7 The following are the powers of the Head of the Library Unit:

Art. 8 External Users require.

a) Present Valid Official Identification (Driver's License, Voter's Card, Passport, Military Service Record.

b) Comply with the provisions of this Regulation.

Art. 9 People who comply with what is mentioned in article 7 will be granted a credential that will accredit them as a user of the Library where it must be requested. This credential will be valid for six months and will contain the following information:

a) Photography.

b) Full Name.

c) Career.

d) Group, Shift and Semester.

e) School Code and date of issue.

Chapter II Of the Rights, Obligations and Prohibitions of Users.

Art. 10 The following are the User Rights indicated in articles 7 and 8:

a) Have access to internal loans of all Bibliographic material, Video Programs, typewriters, study cubicles, INEGI material (maps, books, magazines, CD-ROM) that the library has.

b) Loan of computers, use of CD-ROM and software as well as Internet and telecommunications tools, under the same criteria as the regulations for use of the Computer Network (internal users only) in article 12 paragraphs a), b ) and c).

c) Advice on the use of the catalog and specific information searches.

d) Request a Library credential for external loan at your cost (internal users only).

e) Have your Credential replaced in case of loss at your cost (internal users only).

f) Suggest the purchase of titles appropriate to the study programs of this University Center or of general interest.

g) Locker loan.

Art. 11 The following will be the obligations of the users marked in articles 7 and 8:

a) Notify the Library administration or the librarian on duty of damaged or deteriorated books, videos or software.

b) Present your user credential at any time the library requires it.

c) Register in the forms to request computers, cubicles, videos, CD-ROM, INEGI material.

d) Deposit the consulted books in the carts designated for this purpose.

e) Arrange the chairs and leave the work tables clean after using them.

f) Cover computers and typewriters with their covers after using them.

g) For the use of the Library's Computer Network, the same as established in the Computer Network Regulations in article 13 paragraphs a) to m) (only for internal users).

h) Comply with the provisions of this regulation.

Art. 12 The following will be prohibited for users marked in articles 7 and 8:

a) Do not alter the order within the Library.

b) Do not eat, drink or smoke inside the Library.

c) Do not make notes, trace, underline, mutilate or remove books, video programs and/or Software or any object owned by the library.

d) Do not attempt to make copies or modifications of the Software or Video Packages provided by the Library.

e) Do not misuse or damage the facilities owned by the Library.

f) Do not move equipment or furniture from its assigned place.

g) Do not introduce objects inappropriate for study or research into the Library as they are. Recorders, portable televisions or any object that, in the opinion of the library authorities, disturbs order.

h) For the use of the Library's Computer Network, the same as established in the Computer Network Regulations in article 14, paragraphs a) to q) (only for internal users).
 
 

Titulo IV Internal and External Loan Service

Chapter I Internal Loan Service.

Art. 13 They will be available to the internal loan service.

a) The Bibliographic Collections.

b) Special Collections.

c) Magazines.

d) Video Programs.

e) INEGI material (books, magazines, maps, CD-ROM).

f) Library CD-ROM (internal users only).

g) Library software (internal users only).

h) Maps.


Art. 14 To request the material provided in article 13, it will be provided on an open shelf for books and magazines, for other material a form must be filled out and must be accompanied by the user's Current credential. 

Art. 15 The loan of a book for external photocopy must not exceed one hour from the time the book is issued. 

Art. 16 For the loan of Software, databases and Video programs, the provisions of article 14 of these regulations must be carried out.

Capítulo II External Loan

Art . 17 The external loan will only be reserved for the internal users mentioned in article 7 and in compliance with the provisions of article 9 of this regulation. Art. 18 The external loan will be classified as:

a) The loan of books will include the 09:00 am schedule. at 8:45 pm.

b) The loan of books for the user will only be for two days without renewal and a maximum of 3 books per person.

c) The loan for teachers will only be for one week and they will be able to request the loan of 5 books.

d) For master's, postgraduate and diploma students, the loan will be a maximum of 3 books and the duration will be one week.

Art. 19 Restricted for external loans

a) And to photocopy all the Works without exception for consultation such as:

* Encyclopedias 
* Dictionaries 
* Yearbooks 
* Indices 
* Bibliographies 
* Patents 
* Atlas 
* Manuals 
* Bibliographic catalogs, among others.

b) Books from the general collection that are special or rare, unique or from Special collections.

c) Magazines.

d) Compact Discs.

e) Software.

f) Bibliographic material in the process of registration, cataloguing, classification, binding or physical preparation.

Art. 20 The books must be returned without damage at the time and on the date indicated, otherwise they will be sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of these regulations.

 

Titulo V Library Computer Network Service

Chapter I USES AND SERVICES OF THE COMPUTER NETWORK.

Art. 21 Internet Service and those involved:

a) Email. Personal communication tool between users, it can be used inside and outside the CUC. The Computing Unit will not be responsible for the content that is transmitted.

b) Telnet. Tool for communication and debugging of the Home Directory.

c) FTP. Tool for file transfer. The Computing Unit will not be responsible for the type of files that are transmitted.

d) Browsers. Search tool and access to WWW information. Its use will be limited by the guidelines of this regulation.

e) When the user requires the expansion of services offered, they must submit a written request to the CUC Computing Unit.

Art. 16 Use of public domain programs and files: These are those programs and/or files on the Computer Network that can be copied and distributed freely.
 

Titulo VI The Schedules for use of the Library

Art. 22 For better service, the Central Library of the Centro Universitario de la Costa Campus Puerto Vallarta will work as follows:

a) Normal Class Period from Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

b) During the Ordinary or Extraordinary Examinations period, the same schedule as in the previous section.

c) During school vacation periods, the schedule will be notified in advance.

d) The Central Library will remain closed on holidays indicated in the School Calendar.

Titulo VII De las Sanctions

Art. 23 In case of loss or damage to any of the books, video programs or software or CD-ROM owned by the library, the user must pay the total value of the work, plus fifty percent of the value of the same type and also The sanctions established by the Organic Law in its Article 89 will be applied for having incurred what is established by section IV of Art. 90 of the same Law.

Art. 24 In cases where the lost or damaged work is out of stock, the user must pay the total amount of the work plus 100% of its value in kind.

Art. 25 In case that an internal user has not observed the provisions governing the external loan, the school control and finance coordination will be notified for the purposes of sanctions and collections. If the payment for damage or loss is still not covered, the sanctions will be applied. established by the organic law in its article 89 for having incurred what is established by section IV of Art. 90 of the same Law.

Art. 26 In case of delay in the delivery of material, a fine will be charged as follows:

1.- For each book, a third warning will result in the loan being suspended.

2.- For each day that the material has been delivered late, a one-week punishment will be applied.

Art. 27 Suspensions in the use of the library service will be partial or definitive.

a) Suspensión Parcial

1a) Partial Suspension

1.- For incurring the provisions of sections a), b), c) and d) of Art. 12 of these Regulations. b) Definitive suspension 1.- For incurring the provisions of section E of Art. 12 of this regulation.

2.- For illegally stealing bibliographic, newspaper, video and software material, etc. property of the library.

Organize Books

The books are processed according to international standards.

For Cataloging, the 2RCAA (Second Anglo-American Cataloging Rules) are used.

The SCDD (Dewey Decimal Classification System) is used for classification.

The Dewey Decimal Classification is the most widely used library classification system in the world. It is used in more than 135 countries and has been translated into more than 30 languages. Core Classes are organized by traditional academic disciplines or fields of study. No principle is more basic to the SCDD than the following: the parts of the Classification are arranged by disciplines, not by topics. The SCDD is divided into ten main classes (first summary).

The library has the Open Shelf service which allows the user to freely consult bibliographic material. The arrangement of the books on the shelf is from left to right and from top to bottom per shelf, progressively according to the SCDD starting at 000.

Acquisition Policies

  1. All full-time and subject teachers can request the purchase of bibliographic material through the Career Coordinators or Department Heads. To do this, it is necessary to fill out the corresponding printed form and deliver it to the head of the library. 

     

  2. Students can suggest the purchase of a book or material by leaving the information in the suggestion box at the bottom of this page. 

     

  3. Only books in Spanish and English that are basic, supportive or complementary bibliography are purchased. 

     

  4. The acquisition process is only given to books published during the last four years prior to the current year, unless they are works of a historical or literary nature, or a special reason is indicated. 

     

  5. Only one or two copies are purchased per title requested. 

     

  6. For periodical publications and CD-ROMs or remote access to databases, it is the responsibility of the library manager to establish policies for the conservation and renewal of existing titles, as well as for the acquisition of new ones.
